Vision
Passionate arts advocates gather in Raleigh for a Summit to learn and take action. Together we prepare for imminent change that is certain in the context of Election 2012. The arts stand ready for a revival of purpose and message to make the compelling case for public funding of the arts and statewide policy for arts education.
Mission
- Convene people passionate about the arts to develop a new case for government support
- Build momentum and structure for campaign/election events in cities across North Carolina
(late September/early October) - Inspire and encourage growth in arts advocacy practices at the local, state, and federal levels
- Provide new tools and training for advocacy and election activities
Who Should Come
Advocates who want the tools necessary to make sure the arts flourish in your communities – Arts agency staff and Boards, artists, volunteers, and representatives from economic interests, education leadership, and government agencies.
What Will Happen
Arts Summit content is centered on “Why Government Support?” and “Election 2012”. Expect useful tools, compelling keynote speakers, energetic working groups, exciting panels, and an inspiring closing.
What’s At Stake?
- Future of arts funding and arts education policy
- Public perception and value of the arts
ARTS SUMMIT 2012 is the launching event on an eighteen-month advocacy plan to secure and grow public value for the arts. Local events are scheduled in the fall, and Arts Day 2013 will be held in Raleigh to coincide with the next Biennium budget.
